In Skins

Gosh.

I'm supposed to be having a lecture right now. But hey, I've only just woken up. So fuck it, as Chris would say. It's my first skyve of the term, okay? Don't judge me. Hahaha.
I watched the new series of Skins last night, with an all-new cast (except for Effy and Pandora), and what the fuck. It was quite disappointing. I guess they were trying to introduce all the new characters and show how they were getting to know each other. That's the problem, I think. In Series 1, the story delved right into it as the friendships were already formed. Oh well, I have hope for episode 2.
Okay. I don't usually watch dramas, let alone teenage dramas. But what's got me into Skins? Because it's original. Fuck The O.C. Fuck Gossip Girl. Fuck One Tree Hill. I've tried watching them, and they're all just so... Predictable and unoriginal.

There's something about Skins that gives it an edge. Even though the cast are usually unknowns (and the acting can be quite suspect), it's the compelling story and characters that make for a very special show that makes you laugh and then proceeds to break your heart the next minute, and then makes you laugh again.

It's an exaggerated (yet somewhat realistic) portrayal of the life of a teenager, when things don't seem to make sense and every other adult seem pathetic and hopeless. There's parties, sex, drugs and violence for everyone. Yet this is all for them an escape from the fucked up reality of their own homes.

I loved the cast of Series 1/2. But hey, I understand the need for the new cast. With everyone going to Uni or work, it would be nonsense to make a teenage drama out of growing adults.
