Review: Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz!

Album: It's Blitz!
Artist: Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Review: 4.5 out of 5
In a nutshell: Synth-filled heaven of dancefloor indie

It's been a while since I last reviewed an album, and I'm glad to be coming back to review a masterpiece of an album.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Zero

'It's Blitz!' is Yeah Yeah Yeahs' best album to date. From disco dancefloor stuff to Bjork-ish ballads, It's Blitz! is a mastercraft of epic soundscapes and contagious choruses.

"Zero" starts off the record with one of the most rousing dance tracks you'll ever hear all year. Karen O shows herself to be a very versatile singer, as capable of carrying the ballad-ish "Little Shadow" as she is injecting energy into the breathy "Heads Will Roll," that literally commands you to "dance till you're dead."

Indie bands nowadays have opted for keyboards rather than guitars, and with Yeah Yeah Yeahs it pays off. When the guitar riffs do come in, it's quite rewarding, such as in the case of "Shame And Fortune." Yeah Yeah Yeahs also have a gift for redefining cliches, such as in "Hysteric" where Karen O repeatedly says "suddenly you complete me." "Dragon Queen" is probably the best track in the whole album, and it's a masterful achievement in sensual musical euphoria.

Recommended.
